Mets get Minor League righty Harney from Rays for int'l pool money

The Mets and Rays completed a trade on Friday, with Minor League right-handed pitcher Sean Harney going to the Mets in exchange for international bonus pool money.

Harney, 26, was an eighth-round Draft pick by the Rays in 2022. He has produced a 3.90 ERA with 124 strikeouts and 44 walks across 124 2/3 innings in the Minors. Of his 63 career appearances, 46 have come in relief. That includes 23 of his 27 appearances this past season split between Rookie-level ball, High-A and Double-A.

Harney pitched to a 3.54 ERA in 40 2/3 innings this year. He struck out 35 batters, walked 13 and held them to a .225 average. A University of Kentucky alum, Harney reached as high as Double-A Montgomery in 2023 and ‘24.
