SEATTLE – Royals catcher Salvador Perez exited Saturday night’s 13-7 loss to the Mariners after being hit on the left hand by a 94.1 mph pitch in the seventh inning.
X-rays after the game were negative and Perez is considered day to day.
Perez -- who leads the team with five home runs after belting 48 last year, the single-season MLB record for a primary catcher -- was hit by a four-seam fastball by Seattle reliever Yohan Ramirez.
Perez went down to the ground and was attended to by team athletic trainers before shaking it off and walking slowly to first base. He scored when the next batter, Carlos Santana, homered into the right-field bleachers.
But Perez did not return behind the plate in the bottom of the inning, having been replaced by Cam Gallagher.
