ARLINGTON -- Rangers outfielder Ryan Rua has been removed from his medical rehabilitation assignment at Double-A Frisco because of recurring tightness in his back.
Rua had to come out of Wednesday's game with Corpus Christi after just four innings. The Rangers were planning on activating him Saturday when the rosters are expanded for September, but Rua is not expected to be ready.
Rua, the starting left fielder on Opening Day, was hitting .194 in 56 games for the Rangers before going on the disabled list on July 28 with back spasms. He played in three games for Frisco during the rehab assignment before being shut down.
