The fifth inning hurt the Twins in more ways than one during Sunday's 12-9 win against the Tigers at Target Field.
In the bottom half of the frame, Twins catcher Ryan Jeffers was removed from the game after fouling a ball off of the inside of his left knee. Minnesota later announced he had sustained a left knee contusion.
Jeffers tried to walk it off and tested the knee with a light jog, but he could not continue and was replaced by Ben Rortvedt with a 3-2 count. Rortvedt walked on the next pitch.
Twins starter José Berríos did not allow a hit for 4 2/3 innings, but he was stung by a pair of two-run singles by Akil Baddoo and Jonathan Schoop to put the Twins in a 4-0 hole in the top of the fifth.
