The Rockies claimed left-hander Bernardo Flores Jr. off waivers from the Cardinals and optioned him to Triple-A Albuquerque, the team announced Thursday. To make room on the 40-man roster for Flores, Colorado designated right-hander Ryan Castellani for assignment.
This marks the second time Flores, 25, has changed organizations via waivers this season, as he was claimed by St. Louis from the White Sox on April 1. The Cards designated Flores for assignment on Tuesday to make room for Lars Nootbaar on the 40-man roster.
Flores has made three career appearances in the Majors, allowing three runs in two innings. He owns a lifetime 3.36 ERA in the Minors.
As for Castellani, the Rockies have seven days to trade him or place him on waivers. The righty, a second-round pick in the 2014 MLB Draft, has recorded a 5.79 ERA with more walks (30) than strikeouts (27) in 46 2/3 innings since making his Major League debut last season.
