Royals-White Sox postponed Monday; twin bill Tuesday

CHICAGO -- The Royals’ series opener against the White Sox on Monday was postponed due to inclement weather in the Chicago area after steady rain throughout the day and more projected through the night.

The game will be made up as part of a straight doubleheader Tuesday starting at 3:40 p.m. CT. Game 2 will begin approximately 30-45 minutes following the conclusion of Game 1 but not before 6:40 p.m.

Royals right-hander Brady Singer, who was supposed to start Monday, will pitch Game 1 for Kansas City opposite White Sox righty Dylan Cease. Right-hander Jordan Lyles is scheduled to start Game 2 for the Royals, facing Chicago right-hander Touki Toussaint.

The Royals haven’t yet named Wednesday’s starter for the series finale; they’ll likely pitch an opener for Alec Marsh.

Fans with tickets, parking and Huntington Bank Stadium Club passes to Tuesday’s originally scheduled game can attend both games of the doubleheader. Season ticket holders, individual suite holders and patio ticket holders will receive a credit to their account for game tickets and parking for Monday’s game. Refunds for all other purchases, including Ticketmaster, SeatGeek and Stubhub, should be initiated at the point of purchase.

On Monday afternoon, the Royals promoted catcher Logan Porter to the big leagues, adding him to the 40-man roster while designating catcher Tyler Cropley for assignment. Porter could likely see his big league debut come in Tuesday's doubleheader in whichever game catcher Salvador Perez isn't behind the plate.

With Freddy Fermin out likely for the remainder of the season with a left middle finger fracture, Porter will serve as the Royals’ backup catcher to end 2023. The 28-year-old -- who got his start in baseball by serving as a clubhouse attendant at the Royals’ facility in Surprise, Ariz., before becoming a bullpen catcher and then signing with them as an undrafted free agent in 2018 -- has a .716 OPS in Triple-A Omaha this season.
