Royals-Sox PPD Tuesday; straight doubleheader today
CHICAGO -- Tuesday night’s game between the White Sox and Royals at Guaranteed Rate Field has been postponed due to rain.
The rain began at 5 p.m. CT and, according to forecasts, was set to last into the early morning in Chicago.
The game will be made up as part of a straight doubleheader Wednesday starting at 1:10 p.m. CT. The second game will begin approximately 30-to-45 minutes following the conclusion of the opener. Parking lots and gates will open at 12:10 p.m.
Rookie right-hander Jonathan Cannon, the No. 11 White Sox prospect, according to MLB Pipeline, was set to make his Major League debut Tuesday and now will start Game 1 Wednesday. Erick Fedde, who was scheduled to take the mound Wednesday, gets the call for Game 2.
Cannon, described by many as a consistent strike thrower, follows Nick Nastrini, who allowed two runs over five innings with five strikeouts in a strong effort but losing debut Monday night.
Royals right-hander Brady Singer, who was slated to throw Tuesday night, will start Game 1 on Wednesday, while Michael Wacha will start Game 2. The Royals have a team off-day on Thursday, so this doesn’t throw off their pitching plan too much.
Both teams will be able to recall one player on the 40-man roster to serve as the 27th man for Wednesday’s doubleheader. That player accrues one day of Major League service time and is returned to the Minor Leagues following the completion of the doubleheader.
Fans with tickets, parking and Huntington Bank Stadium Club passes to Wednesday’s originally scheduled 1:10 p.m. contest can attend both games of the doubleheader. Season ticket holders, individual suite holders and patio ticket holders will receive a credit to their account for game tickets and parking for Tuesday’s game. Refunds for all other purchases, including Ticketmaster, SeatGeek and Stubhub, should be initiated at the point of purchase.
Kansas City has a 5-0 season series advantage over the White Sox, who are 1-10 against the American League Central and 1-8 at home.
NBC Sports Chicago, ESPN Radio AM-1000/FM-100.3 HD2 and WRTO-AM 1200/Univision Radio will broadcast both games of the straight doubleheader.
