'We heard you': Royals bring back full powder blues
KANSAS CITY -- The powder blues are back.
The Royals announced Friday they will be bringing back the full powder blue uniforms for Opening Day and the 2023 season. The team reintroduced powder blue jerseys several years ago, but they’ve stuck with wearing white pants with the blue jersey, typically for Sunday day games at home.
Fans have long clamored for the full powder blues to return.
This week, the Royals teased an announcement by changing their profile picture on Twitter. And on Friday, they tweeted out a video with the accompanying words, “We heard you.”
The powder blues were worn from 1973-91, including during their World Series-winning season in '85, before the club switched to the road grays. They evoke memories of George Brett, Bo Jackson, Amos Otis, Dan Quisenberry and other Royals legends.
Now, the young Royals of today will don the powder blues of the past. It’s safe to say the excitement doesn’t just resonate with fans.
