Royals-O's postponed on Saturday; makeup slated for Monday

BALTIMORE -- For two days now, the Orioles and Royals have tried taking the field only to find inclement weather in their way. The high-pressure system continuing over much of the East Coast further delayed the start of the three-game series between the teams Saturday, forcing the second postponement in as many days.

Instead, the Orioles and Royals will open their set with a traditional (single-admission) doubleheader Sunday at Oriole Park at Camden Yards beginning at 1:35 p.m. ET. Saturday’s rainout will be made up on Monday at 12:05 p.m. E.T. Both teams originally had Monday off.

Both then hit the road to begin three-game sets on Tuesday, the Orioles in St. Louis and the Royals in Texas.

Tickets for Saturday’s postponed game will be valid for Monday’s makeup, with no exchange necessary. According to the Orioles, the team will reach out to ticket holders unable to attend the makeup date with an offer for complimentary tickets in a similar seating area for a wide variety of other game options.

Tickets for Sunday’s originally scheduled game will be honored for both games of the doubleheader; those purchased for Friday will need to be exchanged for Sunday or a future game.

The weather further pushes back the Orioles pitching plans, providing additional rest for much of their staff. Right-hander Jordan Lyles will now oppose Zack Greinke in Game 1 of Sunday’s twin bill, with lefties Bruce Zimmermann and Daniel Lynch facing off in Game 2. The Orioles are lining Tyler Wells up opposite Kansas City righty Carlos Hernández for Monday’s matinee.

The circumstances provide two extra days of rest for Wells, whose workload the Orioles are monitoring closely this season as they convert him back into a starting role. Lyles was originally scheduled to start Friday; he also gets the benefit of two extra days’ rest. Both teams will get a 27th man for Sunday's doubleheader.

For the Orioles, the condensed three-game set is the conclusion of what’s been a successful homestand so far, the team taking two of three from the Red Sox and splitting four games with the Twins prior to Friday’s rainout.
