CLEVELAND -- The Royals on Wednesday claimed right-hander Ben Lively off outright waivers from the Phillies, and they announced that he will immediately join the Major League club.
To make room on the 40-man roster, the Royals designated left-hander Eric Stout for assignment.
Lively, 26, won the Phillies' Minor League Pitcher of the Year Award in 2016. He was acquired from the Reds in '15, and he earned the same honor with Cincinnati that season.
Lively made five starts with the Phillies this season, going 0-2 with a 6.85 ERA. He had 10 walks and 22 strikeouts in 23 2/3 innings.
