Lefty Rogers fans seven more for Marlins
Trevor Rogers was on the mound, so strikeouts piled up in the box score.
Miami’s left-hander continued his terrific season with seven more K’s over six stellar innings to increase his rookie class lead to 38 whiffs and earn his third win of the year as the Marlins blanked the Brewers, 8-0, in Milwaukee.
Rogers didn’t pitch without traffic on Monday, allowing six hits through his six frames, but never let a runner move past second base. The southpaw peppered strikeouts throughout his evening, fanning the leadoff batter from the second through the fourth and striking out at least one in his first five innings.
Rogers worked heavily with his fastball against the Brewers, throwing it for 56 of his 85 pitches while also mixing in his changeup and slider. Four of the 23-year-old’s strikeouts came on fastballs, including his first of the evening in the first inning when Avisaíl García stared at a 97.5 mph called third strike, Rogers’ fastest heater of the day.
