DENVER – Sunday’s Padres-Rockies game was delayed with two outs in the top of the first inning when a small flood broke out in foul ground along the right-field line.
There was an issue with the main irrigation line in that area of the park, but the specific nature of the problem will not be known until crews work on it after the homestand. After the flood, the water was shut off in that spot.
At the time of the delay, the Padres were up, 3-0, thanks to Eric Hosmer’s sacrifice fly and Hunter Renfroe’s two-run homer off Rockies rookie starter Peter Lambert. A few minutes after play was stopped, players left the field and the grounds crew began to work on the issue.
Play resumed after a 15-minute delay, with Lambert striking out Padres catcher Austin Hedges to end the frame.
