CINCINNATI -- With the New York Mets’ postseason hopes hanging by a thread, they can ill-afford any significant injuries.

But second baseman Robinson Canó exited in the fourth inning of Sunday afternoon’s 6-3 victory over the Reds at Great American Ball Park, after he was hit in the left foot by a pitch from Reds right-hander Trevor Bauer in the third.

Canó was evaluated by the training staff after being hit, but he remained in the game initially.

X-rays on his left big toe were negative.
