River Riders complete rain delayed comeback at home

ELIZABETHTON, TN --- The Elizabethton River Riders defeated the Bluefield Ridge Runners, 6-2, on Saturday night at Northeast Community Credit Union Ballpark. The River Riders (3-5) broke their four-game losing streak with the win.

The Ridge Runners (4-3) scored one run in the top of the first on an RBI groundout by third baseman Myles McKisic (Georgia Gwinnett College).

Bluefield’s second and final run came in the top of the fourth when centerfielder Janniel Berroa's (Cleveland Community College) base hit scored McKisic from third.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, the River Riders scored one run on a ground out by Garrison Berkey (TCU).

With one out in the fifth inning, the game was delayed for an hour because of inclement weather.

RHP Robert Bavon (OSU) entered the game with runners on the corners when play resumed and recorded a strikeout and a pop-out to end the threat.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, the River Riders took the lead on a two-run double by Marcus Brown (Oklahoma State University) to score designated hitter DJ Sullivan (Florence-Darlington Tech) and catcher Reagan Guthrie (Regis).

Second baseman John Montes (UCF) scored Mario Zabala (Florida International) in the bottom of the sixth on a fielder's choice.

In the bottom of the seventh inning Guthrie hit his first home run of the season to left-center field.

In the top of the eighth inning after RHP Casey Keller (Embry-Riddle) gave up back-to-back base hits LHP Jullian Clavelle (Sacramento City) was brought in the eighth with no outs and runners on first and third with a 5-2 lead. Clavelle had back-to-back strikeouts before walking the bases loaded with two outs. On a 3-2 count, Clavelle was able to strikeout shortstop Michael Seegers (Iowa) to end the threat.

E-Town added their final run in the bottom of the eighth with a Sullivan RBI to score Ronin Fernandez (St. Thomas), making it 6-2 River Riders.

Elizabethton will go for the sweep over Bluefield tomorrow in Northeast Community Credit Union at 5:30 p.m. in a seven-inning contest. Fans can listen to all River Riders games by going here.
