CINCINNATI -- Tuesday's game between the Reds and Cubs was postponed because of rain. The teams will play a split doubleheader on Saturday, May 19 at 1:10 p.m. and 7:10 p.m. ET.
The game was called after a one-hour, 24-minute delay as showers persisted in downtown Cincinnati with a forecast for continued rain throughout the evening.
Cody Reed was supposed to start Tuesday for Cincinnati against Chicago's Jon Lester. Reds manager Bryan Price revealed the team will skip Reed in the rotation and still have Homer Bailey start Thursday's four-game series opener at Pittsburgh.
"We've already got the day off [Wednesday], which pushes everyone back an extra day," Price said. "We'll get [Reed] ready, tentatively, on [April 9] and continue to work to keep him ready."

Following Bailey in Pittsburgh will be Luis Castillo on Friday, Sal Romano on Saturday and Tyler Mahle on Sunday. Reed could pitch Monday at Philadelphia, especially if Brandon Finnegan is not ready to return from the 10-day disabled list. Finnegan is throwing a simulated game on Wednesday in Louisville.
This is the second rainout of the Reds' homestand, as their Opening Day game vs. the Nationals on Thursday was postponed a day by rain. Tuesday marked just the 15th postponement of a game in 16 seasons of baseball at Great American Ball Park.
The Reds won the first game of the series, 1-0, on Monday. Both teams have scheduled off-days on Wednesday, but playing the doubleheader next month was the preferred decision.

"We're used to this. I imagine the Cubs are, too. We'll make it work," Price said.
Fans who had tickets for Tuesday's game will be able to use the same ticket for the rescheduled game on May 19 at 1:10 p.m. with no exchange necessary. However, tickets may also be exchanged for any remaining 2018 regular-season home game, subject to availability. Some exclusions apply.
Ticket exchanges can be made at Great American Ball Park ticket windows throughout the regular season.

Bailey will pitch for the Reds in the 7:05 p.m. ET series opener at PNC Park Thursday on MLB.TV against lefty Steven Brault. Bailey lost Friday in the 2018 opener vs. the Nationals, but he pitched well with one earned run and four hits allowed over six innings. The game could mark the return of outfielder Scott Schebler, who missed Monday's game with a right elbow contusion.
