Reds rained out vs. Bucs; split DH on May 27
CINCINNATI -- The Reds' game vs. the Pirates at Great American Ball Park on Saturday was postponed because of rain and a gloomy forecast.
The game will be made up as part of a day-night doubleheader on Memorial Day Monday, May 27, with the first game at 1:10 p.m. ET and the second at 7:10 p.m. ET.
Both teams are still set to play the series finale at 1:10 p.m. ET Sunday with Cincinnati starting Sonny Gray on the mound after he was Saturday’s scheduled starter. The rest of the rotation will simply move back a day behind Gray.
“Everything stays the same,” Reds manager David Bell said.
Although Pirates scheduled starter Trevor Williams began warming up as it rained Saturday, Gray did not get loose.
“You’re certainly ready to play,” Bell said. “We’ve all been through these types of days. It’s part of it. That was one good thing that came out of it. Sonny did not get going.”
Williams is also slated to pitch on Sunday vs. the Reds.
Saturday’s rainout was only the 16th all time in the 17-season history of Great American Ball Park.
“We definitely tried to get it in up until the last minute. We gave it every possible chance,” Bell said.
Fans holding tickets for Saturday’s game may present their same ticket for the rescheduled 7:10 p.m. game on May 27 with no exchange necessary. For those who need to complete a ticket exchange, they can be turned in for any remaining 2019 regular season home game, subject to availability. Some exclusions apply.
