The Reds announced on Friday that they've recalled right-hander Austin Brice from Triple-A Louisville and optioned right-hander Tanner Rainey to Louisville..
Rainey, who is the Reds' No. 27-ranked prospect according to MLB Pipeline, struggled in two stints with Cincinnati this season, allowing 19 earned runs over just seven innings (24.43 ERA). The Reds have lost seven of the eight games he's pitched in this year.
Brice will likely take over the low-leverage situations that would've been relegated to Rainey, as Brice had struggled to a 6.04 ERA over 25 outings with the big league club this year. Opponents batted .295 against him, and Cincinnati lost 22 of the 25 games that Brice appeared in, including each of his past seven outings.
