Annual Redlegs Run, Brennaman Golf Classic raise combined $250K
It was a busy but successful 72 hours for the Reds Community Fund, as the Cincinnati Reds’ nonprofit hosted two of its biggest annual fundraisers over the course of three days, raising upward of $250,000.
Over the weekend, the Reds hosted the 21st annual CollegeAdvantage Redlegs Run presented by Freking Myers & Reul and Beacon Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine. Over 1,400 runners and walkers participated last Saturday at Great American Ball Park. The event generated over $110,000.
Attendees had the opportunity to sign up for the 10K, 5K, One Mile Run/Walk or Gapper’s Kids Fun Run. In addition, there was once again a virtual option for individuals to complete a run or walk of their choosing on their own time. All participants received a T-shirt, medal and free ticket to the Reds game on Sept. 12.
On Monday, over 120 golfers took part in the 18th annual Encore Technologies Marty Brennaman Golf Classic at Maketewah Country Club. This year’s event raised more than $140,000. Since its debut in 2005, the tournament has generated over $3.25 million for the Reds Community Fund.
Participants enjoyed a round of golf and received a gift bag, breakfast courtesy of Dunkin’, lunch from Skyline Chili and a post-event meal thanks to Chick-fil-A. They also had the opportunity to watch Monday night’s Reds game against the St. Louis Cardinals from one of the ballpark’s premier hospitality areas, the Handlebar presented by Hard Rock Casino.
In addition to the event’s host, Hall of Fame broadcaster Marty Brennaman, celebrity attendees consisted of a host of former Reds players and current media personalities including Barry Larkin, Dave Parker, George Foster, Jeff Brantley, Chris Welsh, Jim Day and Tommy Thrall. Reds catcher Tyler Stephenson also made a surprise appearance.
It was an all-hands-on-deck effort for the Reds Community Fund to execute two of its most important annual fundraisers so close together, but both events went off without a hitch and yielded positive results.
“The flurry of activity over the past week has helped us raise much-needed revenue and awareness ahead of our fall and winter Academy programming,” said Reds Community Fund executive director Charley Frank. “The CollegeAdvantage Redlegs Run is a high-energy atmosphere, culminating with a unique finish line on the warning track for all four events, and it continues to be a great way to connect with the community. The Encore Technologies Marty Brennaman Golf Classic changed its format slightly but continued in its tradition as one of the more unique golf fundraisers in the community.”
