Rangers sign veteran Fields to Triple-A deal
HOUSTON -- The Rangers signed veteran reliever Josh Fields to a Minor League contract and assigned him to Triple-A Nashville. He is expected to join the Sounds on Saturday.
Fields, 33, is a six-year veteran who is coming off two strong seasons with the Dodgers. He appeared in 102 games during 2017-18 and posted a 7-2 record, a 2.57 ERA and a 0.96 WHIP. Opponents hit .195 off him and he averaged 8.54 strikeouts per nine innings.
The Dodgers released him in Spring Training and he signed a Triple-A contract with the Brewers. He pitched in eight games at San Antonio and had an 8.22 ERA before opting out of his deal at the end of April.
