The Rangers placed infielder Brock Holt on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to May 3, with a strained right hamstring on Tuesday.
Holt, who has been bothered by tightness in the hamstring for the last few weeks, aggravated the injury during last weekend’s series against the Red Sox. He was hitting .250 with five RBIs in 15 games (14 starts) at third base in his first season with Texas.
To replace Holt on the active roster, Texas selected the contract of infielder Andy Ibañez from Triple-A West Round Rock. Ibañez has been on the taxi squad for the Rangers' current road trip. He notched his first Major League hit in the ninth inning of the Rangers' 6-3 win over the Twins in 10 innings.

Ibañez, who plays primarily at second and third base, went 4-for-16 in four games at Texas’ alternate training site. He was a non-roster invitee at Major League Spring Training and had a slash line of .295/.326/.477/.803.
This is Ibañez’s sixth season with the Texas organization after he signed as an non-drafted free agent in July 2015. He played three seasons in Serie Nacional, Cuba’s top professional league, before signing with the Rangers. He spent 2020 at the team’s alternate training site in Arlington.
To make room for Ibañez on the 40-man roster, Texas transferred catcher Sam Huff from the 10-day to the 60-day IL.
Davis close to being activated
Manager Chris Woodward said on Tuesday that the Rangers are thinking about activating outfielder Khris Davis (strained left quadriceps) from the IL after the four-game series against the Twins. Davis is currently getting at-bats at the alternate training site.
