Martinez has hernia surgery, will be ready for ST

ARLINGTON -- Rangers pitcher Nick Martinez underwent surgery to repair a sports hernia, the club revealed on Monday.
Martinez had the surgery last Thursday in Philadelphia. The surgery was performed by Dr. William Meyers, who did the same operation on shortstop Elvis Andrus last offseason.
The Rangers expect Martinez to make a full recovery and be ready for Spring Training. Martinez is currently projected to be one of the Rangers' five starters for next season, although the club has made upgrading its rotation a priority.
Martinez split this past season with the Rangers and Triple-A Round Rock. He was 3-8 with a 5.66 ERA in 18 starts and five relief appearances for the Rangers and 4-0 with a 2.15 ERA in six starts and one relief appearance at Round Rock.
He is the second Rangers pitcher to undergo surgery this offseason. Reliever Matt Bush had a shoulder procedure in October, and he is also expected to be ready for Spring Training.
