Globe Life Field to be a vaccination site
The Texas Rangers will be partnering with the City of Arlington to host a COVID-19 Community Vaccination Center, a large-scale vaccination site at Globe Life Field opening on Friday. Arlington is one of four Texas cities to have vaccination sites, the White House announced on Feb. 10.
“The Texas Rangers are honored to work with the City of Arlington, the Texas Division of Emergency Management, and FEMA in the utilization of Globe Life Field as a major COVID-19 vaccination site,” Rangers executive vice president for business operations Rob Matwick said in a press release. “We look forward to assisting thousands of individuals in getting vaccinated over the next several weeks.”
Vaccinations will take place at Globe Life Field for four weeks before transitioning to the Cowboys’ AT&T Stadium after MLB Opening Day. The Arlington Fire Department and American Medical Response have been working with both the Rangers and Cowboys to ready both venues.
According to the City of Arlington, vaccinations will be offered seven days a week and approximately 21,000 vaccines are expected to be administered each week. In accordance with state and federal laws, the vaccine will be distributed to those over 65 years old and those with high-risk health conditions.
Those wishing to register or check eligibility for the vaccine should go to the Tarrant County Public Health website to sign up.
“The City of Arlington greatly appreciates the additional state and federal support in our fight against the coronavirus, as well as the partnership with the Cowboys and Rangers to help us host this additional mass vaccination effort,” said Arlington mayor Jeff Williams. “This collaboration means that thousands more people in our community will be protected from the virus, further reducing the strain on our local hospitals and allowing for us to return to normalcy more quickly.”
