Rangers designate Minor Leaguer Alvarez
SEATTLE -- The Rangers have designated Minor League outfielder Eliezer Alvarez for assignment to make room for pitcher Ricardo Rodriguez on the 40-man roster.
Alvarez was hitting .189 with .279 on-base percentage and a .283 slugging percentage at Double-A Frisco. He spent one day with the Rangers on May 7, and he did not get into a game before being returned to Frisco. The Rangers acquired Alvarez from the Phillies in Spring Training for cash considerations.
Rodriguez began the season on the 60-day disabled list with right biceps tendinitis. He had a 1.64 ERA and a 0.73 WHIP in 11 games on medical rehabilitation assignment at Frisco and Triple-A Round Rock.
