Grichuk to be free agent after declining option with AZ (source)

Veteran outfielder Randal Grichuk has declined his side of his mutual option with the D-backs for 2025 and will become a free agent, a source told MLB.com's Mark Feinsand on Thursday. The team hasn't confirmed the news.
Grichuk signed with Arizona as a free agent last offseason. He had a one-year, $2 million contract for 2024 with a $6 million mutual option for next season. For mutual options to become guaranteed, both the player and team must agree to exercise the option. He will receive a $1.75 million buyout for declining the mutual option after he earned $1.25 million in incentives based on plate appearances on top of his original $500,000 buyout.
The 33-year-old had a strong season for the D-backs, batting .291 with 12 home runs, 46 RBIs and an .875 OPS (140 OPS+) in 106 games.
Grichuk can play any of the three outfield positions, although he's mainly played in the corners over the last few years. He was primarily a right fielder and designated hitter for Arizona this season.
In 11 big league seasons, Grichuk is a .252 career hitter with a .768 OPS, 203 home runs and 1,064 hits. He's reached double-digit home runs in each of the last 10 seasons.
