WhistlePigs announce Jeff Carter as new manager

PRINCETON, W.Va. -- The Princeton WhistlePigs announced that Jeff Carter will take over as manager for the 2022 season.

“We anticipated some changes in our coaching staff prior to the season starting and that is why Jeff was in place as our hitting coach at the time,” explained Princeton WhistlePigs GM Danny Shingleton. Former manager Lamarr Rogers will be managing the Gary Southshore RailCats in Gary, Ind.

“I’m excited to get an opportunity to manager again and in a league where I started my managing career,” said Jeff Carter.

Carter began managing in 2000 with the Elizabethton Twins and winning the Appalachian League championship in his first year. He would go on to manage teams from Rookie to High-A.

Prior to his coaching career, Carter was drafted from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in the ninth round of the 1985 MLB June Amateur draft by the San Francisco Giants. He would play from 1985 to 1996, reaching Triple-A in 1990. He played in the Giants, A’s, Twins, Marlins and Rockies organizations.

Carter is founder and president of All9Baseball academy in Mesa, Ariz.

Assisting Carter on staff will be first year pitching coach Ford Ladd. Ladd was a pitcher and first baseman at New York University, graduating in 2020. He is currently the pitching coach at McCook Community College in Nebraska.

The WhistlePigs will begin the 2022 season at home at H.P. Hunnicutt Field on June 2 as they host the Bristol State Liners. Fans can view the entire 2022 schedule on the official WhistlePigs website.
