Pirates unveil inaugural Hall of Fame class
BALTIMORE -- The Pirates are leaning into their storied history in a big way. The team unveiled its 19-member inaugural Hall of Fame class before Sunday’s series finale against the Orioles, detailing its plans to honor the most consequential contributors in franchise history.
The class, composed of 16 MLB Hall of Famers, four Negro League stars and the two winningest managers in franchise history, will be inducted in a ceremony along the PNC Park Riverwalk on Sept. 3. The inductees will also be honored in a pregame ceremony before the Pirates’ game against the Blue Jays that night.
The Pittsburgh Pirates Hall of Fame honors the contributions of former players and managers who made significant impact on the franchise and community for which they represented, including members of the Pittsburgh Pirates, Homestead Grays and Pittsburgh Crawfords.
The class, in full: Honus Wagner, Paul Waner, Lloyd Waner, Fred Clarke, Jake Beckley, Max Carey, Pie Traynor, Roberto Clemente, Ralph Kiner, Arky Vaughan, Willie Stargell, Bill Mazeroski, Josh Gibson, Ray Brown, Buck Leonard, Oscar Charleston, Dave Parker, Danny Murtaugh and Steve Blass.
