Phillies add lefty Watson to bullpen mix

PHILADELPHIA -- The Phillies continue to reshape their bullpen as pitchers and catchers held their first official workout on Wednesday in Clearwater, Fla.

They and left-hander Tony Watson agreed to a Minor League contract with an invite to Spring Training.

Watson, 35, went 1-0 with a 2.50 ERA in 21 appearances last season with the Giants. He is 40-25 with a 2.80 ERA in 627 appearances over 10 seasons with the Pirates, Giants and Dodgers.

The Phillies are trying to rebuild a bullpen that posted a 7.06 ERA last season, making it the worst in baseball in the past 90 years. They added right-handers Archie Bradley, José Alvarado and Sam Coonrod to the 40-man roster, as well as a group of veteran relievers signed to Minor League contracts with invites to big league camp. Watson joins Brandon Kintzler, Héctor Rondón and Neftalí Feliz, among others.
