Phillies set 40-man postseason player pool

PHILADELPHIA -- The Phillies announced their 40-man postseason player pool on Sunday evening as they continue their pursuit of a potential playoff berth. The group includes 21 pitchers, four catchers, eight infielders and seven outfielders.

Here is the roster:

Pitchers (21): Right-handers Jake Arrieta, Connor Brogdon, Zach Eflin, David Hale, Heath Hembree, Spencer Howard, Tommy Hunter, Adonis Medina, Héctor Neris, Aaron Nola, Blake Parker, David Phelps, Ramón Rosso, Vince Velasquez, Zack Wheeler and Brandon Workman; and left-handers José Álvarez, Garrett Cleavinger, Adam Morgan, JoJo Romero and Ranger Suárez.

Catchers (4): Andrew Knapp, Jonathan Lucroy, Rafael Marchan and J.T. Realmuto.

Infielders (8): Alec Bohm, Phil Gosselin, Didi Gregorius, Rhys Hoskins, Scott Kingery, Nick Maton, Jean Segura and Ronald Torreyes.

Outfielders (7): Jay Bruce, Bryce Harper, Adam Haseley, Mikie Mahtook, Andrew McCutchen, Mickey Moniak and Roman Quinn.

Extra bases
• The Phillies optioned Moniak to Triple-A Lehigh Valley to make room on the 28-man roster for Medina, who made his MLB debut on Sunday.

• The team acquired right-hander Joel Cesar from the Pirates as the player to be named later in the trade for left-hander Austin Davis. Cesar has been added to the 60-man player pool. Cesar, 24, had a 3.02 ERA in 37 appearances (one start) between Class A Advanced Bradenton and Double-A Altoona last season.
