MILWAUKEE -- Padres first baseman Wil Myers left Saturday's game against the Brewers in the top of the ninth with a left calf cramp in a game eventually won by San Diego, 8-7, in 12 innings.
Myers was injured running to first base on a ground ball to shortstop. It appeared to be a routine double-play ball, but Jonathan Villar bobbled the ball and only recorded one out on the play.
"Running down the line, I felt it catch just a little bit, nothing crazy," Myers said. "In that situation right there, I have to be able to score on a base hit or a double in the gap. With the way it was feeling, we decided it might not be the best for me to run right there. But it was only in that type of situation where I had to score in the gap. If we were up two runs, I would've finished that game at first base. It was just one of those precautionary moves."
While the umpires reviewed the force out at second base, Padres manager Andy Green and a member of the athletic training staff tended to Myers on the field.
Having numerous players on the roster on the disabled list with leg injuries, Green was not going to take a risk and let Myers stay in the game.
"You just get to a point where it's like we're not messing with it anymore," Green said. "We're going to make sure our guys are OK and they can't reproduce any symptoms in them."
Derek Norris replaced Myers at first base for the bottom of the ninth inning and hit a go-ahead solo home run off Brewers reliever Chris Capuano in the top of the 12th.
Myers expects to be able to play in Sunday's series finale against the Brewers.
"I knew exactly what it was the whole time," Myers said. "I knew it wasn't anything serious."
