Padres' starting pitching hits early bump in road

The starting pitchers were the force behind the Padres' 3-1 start to the season.
Over the first four games, Padres starters allowed two runs on 12 hits, four walks and two hit batters with 22 strikeouts in 21 1/3 innings for a 0.84 earned run average and a 0.84 WHIP.

But over the past two losses to the Diamondbacks, Padres starters Matt Strahm and Eric Lauer have given up nine runs on 17 hits and four walks with four strikeouts in 7 2/3 innings -- an ERA of 10.56.

The past two nights have raised the overall marks for six games to a 3.54 ERA and a 1.39 WHIP for Padres starters.

The four earned runs allowed by Eric Lauer on Tuesday night were the most runs charged against the left-hander since last July 24 against the Mets, when he gave up six runs in four innings.

-- The combined eight home runs between the Padres and Diamondbacks on Tuesday night was the second-highest total in Petco Park history. The same two teams combined for nine homers on Sept. 20, 2017. The record for combined home runs in a Padres game is also nine, which happened three times – done most recently last July 7 against the Diamondbacks in Arizona.

-- OF Hunter Renfroe’s two homers marked the sixth multihomer game of his career.

-- Wil Myers hit the first pinch-hit homer of his career Tuesday night. Myers finished the game 2-for-2 with the two-run homer. Myers is off to an 8-for-19 start (.421) to the season with a double, two homers and four RBIs for a .476 on-base percentage and a .789 slugging percentage for a 1.265 OPS after six games.
