Padres select OF Dillon Head with 25th overall pick in Major League Baseball's 2023 First-Year Player Draft

SAN DIEGO – The San Diego Padres selected outfielder Dillon Head from Homewood Flossmoor High School (Ill.) with the 25th overall pick in MLB’s 2023 First-Year Player Draft, President of Baseball Operations & General Manager A.J. Preller and Vice President of Amateur and International Scouting Chris Kemp announced today.

Recommended by Padres Area Scout Troy Hoerner, Head, 18, hit .485 in his senior year with a .554 on-base percentage, .814 slugging percentage, six home runs, 25 RBI, 15 walks, and 31 stolen bases. The left-handed outfielder participated in the USA Prime National, USA/MLB Baseball Prospect Development Pipeline, and the Area Code Games. As a junior, the 6-foot, 185-pound outfielder stole a school-record 33 bases and was a First-Team All-State selection by the Illinois’ 2022 Prep Baseball Report. Committed to Clemson University, Head entered the Draft as the nation’s 10th-highest ranked high school prospect by MLB Pipeline, the 7th-ranked outfield prospect overall (MLB Pipeline) and the No. 9 prospect in the Class of 2023 as ranked by Perfect Game.

The MLB draft will continue tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. PT with rounds 3-10, and will conclude on Tuesday, July 11th with rounds 11-20.
