LATEST NEWS

Nov. 19: RHP Henry Baez (Padres No. 7 prospect), LHP Omar Cruz (No. 22), RHP Ryan Bergert (No. 25) selected to 40-man roster
Ahead of the deadline to protect prospects from becoming eligible for next month's Rule 5 Draft, the Padres added three Minor League pitchers to their 40-man roster. INJURY UPDATES

RHP Joe Musgrove (Tommy John surgery)
Expected return: 2026
Musgrove exited his start in Game 2 of the National League Wild Card Series and was later diagnosed with a torn UCL in his right elbow. He underwent Tommy John surgery on Oct. 11 with Dr. Keith Meister. It remains likely that Musgrove will miss the entirety of the 2025 season. (Last updated: Oct. 11)

RHP Jhony Brito (right elbow strain)
Expected return:
2025
Brito's first season in the Padres organization came to an end in mid August, after he'd spent the year splitting time between Triple-A and the big league club. The Padres expect him to return for 2025, though they've offered no specific timetable or details on his recovery. (Last updated: Nov. 1)

RHP Stephen Kolek (right elbow tendinitis)
Expected return: Early 2025
Kolek had resumed playing catch by the end of the season and is likely to be available for the start of the 2025 campaign. A Rule 5 Draft selection, Kolek had a 5.21 ERA in 42 appearances before his season came to an end in late July. He was active for long enough that he won't be subject to any Rule 5 roster restrictions next season. (Last updated: Nov. 1)

RHP Luis Patiño (right elbow inflammation)
Expected return: 2025
Patiño underwent Tommy John surgery on April 30, putting an end to his 2024 season before it began. The 24-year-old made two appearances in Spring Training before opening the season on the IL. The Padres, who originally signed Patiño as an amateur free agent before dealing him to Tampa Bay in the 2020 Blake Snell trade, claimed Patiño off waivers from the White Sox in December.
