Pérez, Jacob added to Padres' NLDS roster

LOS ANGELES -- Replacing the injured Joe Musgrove will take a collective effort, the Padres have said. Their 26-man National League Division Series roster proves it.

San Diego unveiled that roster on Saturday morning, ahead of Game 1 in the evening at Dodger Stadium. Two pitchers -- Martín Pérez and Alek Jacob -- were added to the roster in Musgrove's place. The Padres chose to add an extra arm to the 12 they carried for the NL Wild Card Series against the Braves, opting for an even split -- 13 pitchers and 13 position players.

Backup shortstop Nick Ahmed also gave way (with Tyler Wade and any other number of one-time shortstops on this Padres roster capable of handling those duties).

Pérez’s role remains unclear. He posted a 3.46 ERA in 10 starts after joining the Padres at the Deadline, and he’s an option to start Game 4. Or San Diego could use a bullpen game -- perhaps with Pérez and Jacob involved.

"I've got to be ready," Pérez said. "In these games, it's not what you want. It's what they need. Where does my team need me to help them win?"

Here is the roster in full:

Catchers (2): Elías Díaz, Kyle Higashioka

Infielders (5): Luis Arraez, Xander Bogaerts, Jake Cronenworth, Manny Machado, Donovan Solano

Outfielders (5): Brandon Lockridge, Jackson Merrill, David Peralta, Jurickson Profar, Fernando Tatis Jr.

Utility (1): Tyler Wade

Starting pitchers (3): Dylan Cease, Yu Darvish, Michael King (and potentially Pérez)

Relievers (10): Jason Adam, Jeremiah Estrada, Bryan Hoeing, Jacob, Yuki Matsui, Adrian Morejon, Wandy Peralta, Pérez, Tanner Scott, Robert Suarez
