ST. LOUIS -- There is a belief in the Braves’ dugout that they are never out of a game, no matter the situation. They showed their resilience with a ninth-inning rally to beat the Cardinals in Game 3 of the National League Division Series, and the trend continued in Game 4 on Monday afternoon.
Second baseman Ozzie Albies turned Atlanta’s one-run deficit into a 4-3 lead with a two-run homer off starter Dakota Hudson in the fifth inning at Busch Stadium. It was Albies’ first extra-base hit in 29 postseason at-bats.
His heroics went for naught, however, after the Cardinals rallied to tie the score in the late innings and walked off with a 5-4 win in the 10th.
“That's the way we play the whole season. We don't give up,” Albies said on Monday morning. “We keep battling, keep battling until the last out is made. And you guys saw it last night, it was one of the best games we played the whole year. And it's really huge for us.”
After Ronald Acuña Jr. lined out to left, Albies pulled the first pitch he saw -- a high, 94-mph fastball from Hudson -- into the Cardinals' bullpen beyond the right-field wall.
