O's recall Drake, outright Janish

BALTIMORE -- The Orioles recalled right-hander Oliver Drake from Triple-A and outrighted utility infielder Paul Janish to Norfolk before Tuesday's game, the team announced.
Janish, who hit .194 in 14 games this season and started Monday, has three days to decide whether to accept the assignment to Triple-A or become a free agent because he cleared waivers.
Manager Buck Showalter said he's hoping Janish will join Norfolk in Columbus on Friday to remain within the organization.

"We are very picky about who we let wear the black and orange. And Paul is a pro," Showalter said. "Hopefully he is going to go home and take his options into consideration."
The primary reason for the move is that the Orioles are short-handed in the bullpen because lefty Brian Duensing is having his elbow checked out. Showalter said the elbow began bothering Duensing early during Monday's game and he met with Texas doctors. The reliever was unavailable in the 4-3 loss and did not pitch again Tuesday.
So Drake, who is the reigning International League Pitcher of the Week, provides Showalter with another arm. Still, losing Janish leaves the O's two infielders short with All-Star third baseman Manny Machado still serving his four-game suspension.
In 27 games this season at Triple-A, Drake was 0-1 with a 2.02 ERA and 42 strikeouts. He converted 10 of 12 save opportunities and went 14 straight innings without allowing an earned run. He entered the Orioles' 10-7 loss to the Padres on Tuesday in the seventh and was handed a blown save after a two-inning outing.
"He's been pitching real well for an extended period of time," Showalter said of the 29-year-old. "He's real deserving."
