Orioles reassign five players to Minor Leagues

CLEARWATER, Fla. -- The Orioles' Opening Day roster looks pretty much set.
The O's reassigned outfielders Alex Presley and Cedric Mullins, and infielder Luis Sardiñas to Minor League camp following Sunday's 6-5 Grapefruit League finale win over the Phillies. With Danny Valencia and Craig Gentry already on the club, it looks like Pedro Álvarez will make the team as well.
Baltimore reassigned left-handed relievers Josh Edgin and Joely Rodríguez to Minor League camp prior to Sunday's game, effectively giving roster spots to Mike Wright Jr., Nestor Cortes Jr. and Miguel Castro.
"I like their chances," manager Buck Showalter said of the latter trio, though he cautioned that there are still some things in play in advance of Thursday's deadline to submit rosters.
"As you get toward the end it gets tougher and tougher, because neither [Edgin nor Rodriguez] really did anything to not make the club .... both of those guys still have a chance to help us."

Edgin and Rodriguez will both presumably be part of Triple-A Norfolk's bullpen after each had impressive Grapefruit League campaigns.
Edgin allowed one earned run in seven innings this spring, and Rodriguez also surrendered just one run over his 10 appearances. The pair, both on Minor League deals, can remain in the organization and not risk being exposed to waivers. Cortes -- who will presumably be the second lefty in the bullpen -- is a Rule 5 pick who can't be sent down, while Wright is out of options.

Cortes -- who was selected from the Yankees farm system -- would be the Orioles' second Rule 5 Draft pick on the Opening Day roster, as righty Pedro Araujo was told last week he had made the club.
Positionally, Presley -- who explored his opt-out options -- is expected to be at Triple-A Norfolk and is another option for the O's down the road. Sardinas was a utility-infield candidate but Baltimore opted to go with Valencia for that role instead.
The O's will continue to monitor the waiver wire as well, and hold a Wednesday workout in advance of Thursday's deadline.
