SARASOTA, Fla. -- The Orioles optioned Dariel Alvarez to Triple-A Norfolk prior to Tuesday night's game against the Braves, leaving the outfield picture a little clearer in the final week of camp.
Alvarez was the odd man out this spring with Baltimore adding Mark Trumbo and Rule 5 Draft pick Joey Rickard playing so well. Alvarez went 8-for-44 in Grapefruit League play and will join a crowded outfield mix in Norfolk.
L.J. Hoes, Xavier Avery and Nolan Reimold are among the other outfielders still in camp. Hyun Soo Kim, who hasn't played the past few days, was initially projected to make the Opening Day roster, but it's looking more and more doubtful given his tough spring. Kim would have to agree to be sent to Triple-A.
The O's have to get down to 25 players by Opening Day, with Jimmy Paredes, Kevin Gausman and Brian Matusz expected to go on the disabled list.
