Ole Miss catcher rips 4 homers, drives in 10

A combined 34 runs were scored in Saturday afternoon’s slugfest between visiting Ole Miss and Missouri. Despite that, the story of the day revolved around one player.

Ole Miss catcher Calvin Harris powered his team’s 20-14 victory – quite literally – with a monster performance in which he went 4-for-6 with a program-record four home runs. His 10 RBIs also tied a program record.

The junior opened his offensive onslaught with an early game-tying two-run home run in the third inning, erasing an early deficit for Ole Miss. He added a grand slam an inning later and another pair of two-run shots in the sixth and ninth.

Harris, who ranks No. 145 on MLB Pipeline’s top 150 Draft prospects list, is in the midst of a strong season, hitting .342 with a .631 slugging percentage, and while he has long had power potential, he’s cashing in on it in 2023 – with his four-homer performance, he’s up to 12 on the season after combining for five across his freshman and sophomore seasons.
