Showalter not concerned with Deadline fodder

BALTIMORE -- Orioles manager Buck Showalter isn't scouring trade rumors, nor is he worried about the buzz surrounding Monday's non-waiver Trade Deadline.
"It's blown out of proportion," Showalter said, "especially [with] a club like ours."
The O's are obviously in the running to upgrade their pitching staff, and they have been typically linked to several arms thought to be available -- though no one is ever quite sure what to believe.
"You don't become insensitive to it. It's kind of cold," Showalter said. "You'd like for there to be a scoreboard when you're wrong three out of four times and it's not even close to being right.
"But the tough one is, somebody might say, 'Would you have interest in this guy?' Well, I'm not going to talk about that because that means somebody goes away in our locker room. They don't want to hear that. You don't hear me say, 'We need this, we have got to have this.' We have somebody in there trying to fill that role, so what kind of reflection is that on them?"
Showalter has always preached looking internally, which is exactly what the O's are doing in trying guys like Vance Worley and Dylan Bundy in their rotation and Tyler Wilson and lefty Donnie Hart (now in the Minors) in the bullpen.
"[Executive vice president of baseball operations] Dan [Duquette] has brought a couple things to me but nothing that seemed imminent," Showalter said.
"A couple of them [had me saying], 'Yeah, I like that guy. For what? No, of course we shouldn't do that.' You can get a pretty good starting pitcher for 'blank,' and he's gone at the end of the year. Dan and the organization have shown we'll go for it if it's right, if we think it's a big difference-maker and really fills a big weakness we think we might have."
