Noah Syndergaard is starting a book club
Stuck in a book rut? Tired of reading hard sci-fi and have no one to talk about it with? Wish someone would just tell you what to read instead of leaving you slack-jawed in front of the display case at your favorite local indie bookstore? Well, you're in luck because Mets pitcher and general memester Noah Syndergaard is starting his very own book club.
The righthander with the power of Thor announced it on Twitter Wednesday night with a hot tub photo that puts all other book club posters to shame:
Teammate Pete Alonso quickly wanted to join:
Syndergaard got into the reading is cool club in the last year while recovering from Tommy John surgery.
“I’ve been reading a lot of books while recovering from my Tommy John surgery and thought it could be cool to share this new hobby with everyone,” Syndergaard told the New York Daily News. “I’ve learned a lot from all of these books about recovery techniques, leadership, leaning on my inner strength, and simply that it’s fun."
The first book will be announced on Feb. 1, and Syndergaard will post some of his favorite passages and thoughts on Twitter as he reads.
As for what to expect, Syndergaard suggested that health, fitness, leadership and self-motivation books would be on tap. So, you probably won't be reading the latest Man Booker Prize winner with Syndergaard (That would be "Shuggie Bain" by Douglas Stuart), though he's also taking suggestions. Perhaps you could even suggest your self-published novel that's about a mild-mannered office worker turned super spy. Weirder things have happened -- like Syndergaard announcing a book club with a shirtless hot tub photo.
