KANSAS CITY -- Shortstop Niko Goodrum left the Tigers’ game with a right knee bruise Tuesday night after fouling a pitch from Royals pitcher Jakob Junis off the knee in the third inning.

Goodrum initially stayed in the game and finished his at-bat by striking out. Then Gordon Beckham came on to replace Goodrum in the field for the bottom of the third.

Manager Ron Gardenhire said X-rays on Goodrum's knee were negative. But Gardenhire said he doubts that Goodrum will be able to start on Wednesday.

"His knee is swollen," Gardenhire said. "He probably won't play [Wednesday]. I'm guessing he's going to need a day. He took a pretty good shot off the kneecap."

Goodrum is batting .235 with six homers and 18 RBIs.
