The A’s announced on Thursday that they have acquired left-hander Nik Turley from the Pirates in exchange for cash considerations.
Pittsburgh designated Turley for assignment on Tuesday. The southpaw is out of Minor League options, a factor in the Pirates’ decision as the club cleared a roster spot to claim outfielder Troy Stokes Jr. off waivers from the Tigers.
Turley, 31, appeared in 25 games out of the Pirates’ bullpen last year, finishing with a 4.98 ERA and a 20/11 strikeout-to-walk ratio across 21 2/3 innings. He debuted with the Twins in 2017 before missing the '18 and '19 campaigns while recovering from Tommy John surgery. The lefty owns a career 3.43 ERA across 176 appearances (139 starts) in the Minor Leagues.
