Castellanos' walk-off vs. Braves has Phils feeling good about NL East

PHILADELPHIA -- Maybe the Phillies and Braves will do this again in October.

It would be fun.

Nick Castellanos’ two-out game-tying two-run double in the sixth inning and his walk-off single in the 11th inning propelled Philadelphia to a 3-2 victory over Atlanta on Sunday night at Citizens Bank Park. The Phillies won three of four games in the series, extending their lead over the Braves in the National League East to seven games with 25 to play.

The division has not been won, but the math is seriously in the Phils’ favor.

If the Phillies play a game under .500 the rest of the season, they would finish 93-69. The Braves would need to finish 19-6 (.760) to tie them in the standings, which would give Atlanta the division because it holds the head-to-head tiebreaker by winning the season series 7-6. Of course, Philadelphia has no plans on playing a game under .500 the rest of the way.

Braves rookie Spencer Schwellenbach was putting together another strong start against the Phils when he ran into trouble in the sixth. He allowed a two-out single to Trea Turner and a bloop double to Bryce Harper that put runners on second and third.

Castellanos hit an 0-2 slider to left-center field to score both runners to tie the game.

The Phillies had runners on second and third with two outs in the 11th when Castellanos laced a single to center field to win it. It was his fourth walk-off hit of the season.
