Nats prospect Barrera suspended 80 games
Nationals catcher Tres Barrera has received an 80-game suspension without pay for violating Major League Baseball’s Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.
Barrera tested positive for Dehydrochlormethyltestosterone (DHCMT), a performance-enhancing substance.
The 25-year-old catcher, who is ranked as the Nationals' No. 19 prospect by MLB Pipeline, was on Washington’s 40-man roster and part of the club’s 60-man player pool for the 2020 season.
The Nationals selected Barrera in the sixth round of the 2016 Draft out of the University of Texas. He’s a career .259/.336/.399 hitter in the Minors.
