Nats promote Eddie Longosz to VP of player development

The Nationals promoted longtime front office member Eddie Longosz to the role of vice president and assistant general manager of player development and administration, the team announced Friday. Longosz, 37, has been in the Nats’ organization since 2010.

“Eddie Longosz has been integral to our organization’s success over the past 14 years,” president of baseball operations and general manager Mike Rizzo said in a statement. “He is a tireless worker with extensive knowledge of our Minor League players, coaches and system as a whole. He developed strong relationships with many of our current players during the Draft process and has earned not only their trust, but the trust of those around them.”

Longosz, a Washington, D.C., native, was the Nationals’ director of scouting operations for the past eight years. He assisted Rizzo on professional, amateur and international scouting operations.

Longosz holds a degree in business administration with a concentration in finance from the University of Richmond. He is working toward a Master’s of Business Administration from New York University’s Leonard N. Stern School of Business Executive Program.

“Beyond his support of our Draft operations, his expertise in emerging technology and analytics will enhance our process and make us more efficient,” Rizzo said. “Eddie is very well respected around the league, and I could not be happier to have him leading our player development system.”

The promotion of Longosz is the latest front office news in recent weeks. On Oct. 25, the Nationals hired Danny Haas as vice president of amateur scouting, Brad Ciolek as the senior director of amateur scouting and Reed Dunn to be the assistant director and national crosschecker of amateur scouting.
