NL ends AL's 14-year Interleague win streak

The American League may have won its sixth straight All-Star Game in July, but the National League can now say that an even longer streak has been put to rest.
As first noticed by writer Jeff Sullivan at FanGraphs, the NL has clinched this year's Interleague series over the AL for the first time since 2003. The NL is 152-139 over its counterpart with six Interleague matchups remaining. The NL dominated the early years of Interleague Play, winning the first three seasons and four of the first seven after the games debuted in 1997, but was 0-for-the-last-14 entering this season. The AL also outscored the NL in each of those 14 seasons, proving its streak was no fluke. But the NL had outscored AL clubs 1,283-1,219 in head-to-head competition this season entering Wednesday's action.
One could make the argument that the NL's bench is a little deeper this season. While the top-heavy AL could feature as many as four 100-win clubs, it also includes two teams in the Orioles and Royals that are both on pace to record franchise-worst seasons. Meanwhile, 10 of the 15 NL clubs currently have winning records and five still have a feasible chance for a Wild Card spot.
