LOS ANGELES -- Dodgers star outfielder Mookie Betts was out of the lineup for a third consecutive game on Saturday and is still considered day to day with a stiff lower back that has lingered for a few days. Betts wasn't available off the bench in Saturday’s game against the Nationals.
“I think right now, he just continues to get treatment,” said Dodgers manager Dave Roberts. “He’s feeling a little better. But talking to the training staff, we feel like staying away from him tonight and see how he’s feeling tomorrow.”
Roberts said Betts took some swings before the game on Friday, but was unsure if the outfielder would be going through any drills on Saturday. While Betts was unavailable yet again, Roberts still believes the Dodgers won’t have to place the outfielder on the 10-day injured list.
“I don’t foresee that,” Roberts said. “Hopefully there continues to be improvement.”
Betts isn’t the only Dodgers outfielder dealing with an injury. Cody Bellinger was placed on the 10-day injured list with a left calf contusion on Friday. Bellinger was injured in the ninth inning of Monday’s game as he was cleated by A’s pitcher Reymin Guduan on a close play at first base. Bellinger is eligible to return from the injured list on April 16, the first game of the three-game weekend series against the Padres.
Without Betts and Bellinger, the Dodgers' lineup is missing two former MVPs. Zach McKinstry and Luke Raley will handle right-field duties until Betts is able to return, while Chris Taylor continues to man center field in Bellinger’s absence.
“We just gotta keep taking good at-bats,” Roberts said. “I think, just in general, we have a lot of good players, even without those two guys.”
Dodgers claim Goudeau
The Dodgers made a minor roster move on Saturday, claiming right-handed pitcher Ashton Goudeau off waivers from the Giants. Over eight Minor League seasons, he is a combined 29-48 with a 4.81 ERA and 499 strikeouts.
Goudeau’s repertoire includes a four-seam fastball, a changeup and a curveball. His average fastball velocity last season was 93.3 mph. Goudeau has been added to the team’s 40-man roster.

Injury updates
Tony Gonsolin, who was placed on the 10-day injured list with right shoulder inflammation, is eligible to be activated Sunday, but the right-hander is still not close to returning to the mound.
Roberts said Gonsolin will try to throw a bullpen session on Sunday, but that he’s still experiencing soreness in the shoulder area. Dennis Santana was called up in place of Gonsolin, but Santana has yet to appear in a game this season.
As for Brusdar Graterol, the power right-hander continues to take steps in the right direction, throwing a simulated game off the mound at Dodger Stadium on Saturday. Roberts said Graterol threw about 15 pitches, which included fastballs and sliders. Graterol will head back to the alternate training site at Camelback Ranch as the Dodgers try to figure out what’s next in his recovery. There’s still no set timetable for his return.
