21 up, 21 down ON HER 21st BIRTHDAY!
Montana Fouts might've just had the greatest birthday of all time.
The Alabama softball ace tossed a perfect game in a winners bracket game in the Women’s College World Series against defending champion UCLA, setting down 21 in a row on her 21st birthday.
Fouts was dominant all night, striking out 14 for her ninth straight start with 11 K’s or more. Alabama has won its last 17 games in which Fouts has pitched.
There has only been one no-hitter thrown on a pitcher’s birthday in MLB history. That was over a century ago in 1912, when George Mullin accomplished the feat on his 32nd birthday.
Keeping with the theme, it was the first perfect game in the WCWS since Courtney Blades-Rogers did so 21 years ago on May 25, 2000, a little over a week before Fouts was born. It was also the fifth perfecto by an individual pitcher in the history of the tournament.
Fouts has been dominant all season, striking out 344 batters in just 210 2/3 innings. She was named the SEC Co-Pitcher of the Year and was a First Team All-SEC selection.
