Welcome to the world of MLB Gameday 3D

Gameday 3D puts the world of Major League Baseball at your fingertips in a whole new way.

MLB's 3D tracking technology now lets you experience every play from every angle during a game.

It's an extra dimension to following a game that we never had before. Each Major League game is tracked in 3D and rendered into Gameday for fans to watch how the action is unfolding in real time.

But it's more than just keeping tabs on the balls and strikes or score of a game. Gameday 3D allows you to see everything that happens on the baseball field from perspectives that you can't get from watching the game on TV.

With Gameday 3D, you can follow a batter around the bases as he celebrates a huge home run. You can move across the outfield with the outfielder as he tracks down a fly ball and makes a diving catch. You can get behind the plate to see what baseball's nastiest pitches look like from the hitter's point of view.

And from Monday's games through July 16 -- the day of the 2024 All-Star Game -- Gameday 3D is free for all fans, presented by Mastercard and its support of Stand Up to Cancer.

Here's how Gameday 3D works, how fans can access it, and how it can open up a new side of the game.

What is Gameday 3D?

Gameday 3D uses the Hawk-Eye high-speed cameras installed in every MLB ballpark and Statcast's tracking data to recreate the game, live as it happens, in a homegrown 3D environment.

Every play is tracked in full -- from the speed and movement of the pitch, to the trajectory of the hit, to the position and movement of the fielders, to the runners' paths around the bases -- and rendered into a 3D version of the game on MLB.com and in the MLB App.

The goal is to create a more immersive experience of the game. Gameday 3D features everything from real MLB ballpark layouts to player avatars wearing the teams' actual uniforms.

It almost looks like MLB The Show -- but Gameday 3D is using the real game-tracking data to represent what's actually happening on the field.

Here's an interactive example: Matt Chapman showing off his Gold Glove defense at third base to turn a double play on the electric Elly De La Cruz.

You can use the Gameday 3D player below to view Chapman's highlight-reel play from any perspective you want.

How to use Gameday 3D

Fans can access Gameday 3D while games are live for in-the-moment 3D action, or go back after the game is over to get a unique look at the highlights of a game.

During live games, just pull up the MLB.com Gameday dashboard on your computer, or navigate to the Gameday tab within the MLB App. From there, find the "3D" button in the upper right corner of the live Gameday view to open up Gameday 3D.

After the game, you can return to Gameday and pull up Gameday 3D replays for any play with a video highlight.

Once you're in Gameday 3D, you can use the camera controls to choose your own view of the field. Users can navigate all around the field in 360 degrees to see a play from alternate angles -- orbit the action, switch to the pitcher or hitter's perspective, view a pitch from behind the strike zone, track an individual player from the beginning to the end of the play and more.

For example, here's a bird's-eye view of Carlos Correa executing a perfect relay to the plate to throw out Shohei Ohtani earlier this season:

The Gameday 3D controls also allow you to drag the mouse to pan the camera, zoom in and out, expand the window to full screen, pause, rewind and fast-forward the action and change the playback speed.

Like with this clutch defensive gem by Rangers star Corey Seager in last year's World Series. In the Gameday 3D view here, the camera is zoomed in on Seager and tracks the shortstop as he ranges up the middle to scoop up Ketel Marte's hot shot and flip it to second base to start a critical double play.

What you can do with Gameday 3D

The possibilities are endless for how you can use Gameday 3D to experience the ins and outs of an MLB highlight. Here are just a few examples.

Just follow the links to any of these highlights in Gameday, head over to the "Gameday 3D" tab and immerse yourself in the play.

• Watch through the "Action" camera as Juan Soto hits a dramatic homer against the Rays at Yankee Stadium on April 19 -- and is pumped up on his home run trot.

• Follow Julio Rodríguez's path across center field as he makes a diving catch in Seattle on April 1 and welcomes Will Brennan to the No Fly Zone.

• Track Shohei Ohtani or Aaron Judge in their race to the plate on June 9 -- Ohtani's speed vs. Judge's arm -- a race Ohtani wins.

• Use the "Fan Control" camera to watch the Cubs fire a game-ending relay to the plate to nab Pete Alonso and beat the Mets at Citi Field on May 1.

• Use the "Strike Zone" cam to see Paul Skenes blow away Ohtani with triple-digit heat in their showdown on June 5.

No matter which play you pick to explore in Gameday 3D, make sure to switch up the camera angles and find your favorite point of view. Gameday 3D has an angle for everyone.
