Four teams lead way in 2022 ASG team-by-team breakdown

The 2022 All-Star rosters are out. Here's who's representing every MLB team in the 92nd Midsummer Classic.

With the starting lineups announced July 8, and the pitching staffs and reserves announced July 10, we now know the 66 original All-Stars, plus a few replacement selections, slated to represent the American League and National League on July 19 at Dodger Stadium.

The MLB-best Yankees headline this year's class with six representatives before replacements, and the defending World Series champion Braves and host Dodgers have the most All-Stars of all NL teams with six each. But all 30 teams are represented.

Rosters can still change between now and the All-Star Game if players drop out due to injury or other factors and are replaced by new players. Any replacements will be added here when they are announced.

Here's a team-by-team breakdown of all the 2022 All-Stars, in descending order of total representatives.

YANKEES (6): Gerrit Cole#, RHP; Nestor Cortes^, LHP; Clay Holmes^, RHP; Aaron Judge (starter), OF; Giancarlo Stanton (starter), OF; Jose Trevino^, C

Unsurprisingly, the first-place Yankees are well-represented on this year’s AL roster, leading MLB with six selections before replacements were announced -- the club’s most since 2011 (eight). Their All-Stars are headlined by Judge, who leads the Majors with 30 home runs and was elected a starter for the fourth time.

BLUE JAYS (6): Alejandro Kirk (starter), C; Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (starter), 1B; Alek Manoah^, RHP; George Springer^, OF, RHP Jordan Romano+; Santiago Espinal+, 2B

For the second straight year, the Blue Jays have at least four All-Stars, marking the first time they’ve had at least four in consecutive years since 1993 (seven) and 1994 (four). They have two starters for the game in Kirk, a first-time All-Star, and Vlad Jr., a starter for the second time and the reigning All-Star Game MVP.

DODGERS (6): Mookie Betts (starter), OF; Tony Gonsolin^, RHP; Clayton Kershaw", LHP; Trea Turner (starter), SS; Freddie Freeman#, 1B; Tyler Anderson+, LHP

The host Dodgers have at least three All-Stars for an eighth straight time, dating back to 2014. They also hold the honor of being the only NL team with multiple elected starters in Betts and Turner. Betts is an All-Star for the sixth straight time, and Kershaw keeps up with Verlander with his ninth career All-Star selection.

BRAVES (6): Ronald Acuña Jr. (starter), OF; William Contreras^ (starter), DH; Travis d'Arnaud^, C; Max Fried#, LHP; Dansby Swanson^, SS; Austin Riley+, 3B

The reigning World Series champs pace the NL with five All-Star selections, their most since 2011 (five). With Bryce Harper sidelined due to a fractured left thumb, William Contreras will start for the NL at designated hitter -- while his brother Willson starts at catcher. Acuña, the leading NL vote-getter in Phase 1, earned an automatic All-Star start, the third of his career.

ASTROS (5): Jose Altuve#, 2B; Yordan Alvarez^, DH; Kyle Tucker^, OF; Framber Valdez", LHP; Justin Verlander#, RHP

For the fifth All-Star Game in a row, the Astros boast at least four selections. Verlander is an All-Star for the ninth time, tied with fellow 2022 All-Star Clayton Kershaw for the most among active pitchers. Alvarez won't play in the game due to a nagging right hand injury that landed him on the 10-day injured list on Sunday, while Altuve is nursing a sore knee.

CARDINALS (5): Nolan Arenado#, 3B; Paul Goldschmidt^, 1B; Ryan Helsley^, RHP; Albert Pujols, 1B (special selection); Miles Mikolas+, RHP

The Cardinals have four All-Stars for the first time since sending six players in 2015. That includes Pujols, a legacy pick who will be making his 11th All-Star appearance overall, and 10th with St. Louis, in his 22nd and final season. Arenado and Goldschmidt are both All-Stars for the seventh time -- it's Arenado's seventh straight All-Star Game, and Goldschmidt's third career election as a starter. Arenado will not play, though, as he nurses a lingering back issue.

METS (4): Pete Alonso^, 1B; Edwin Díaz^, RHP; Starling Marte^, OF; Jeff McNeil^ (starter), 2B

The Mets are sending four players to the Midsummer Classic for the first time since 2016, led by Alonso, who has 23 home runs and a Major League-leading 70 RBIs. This is the first time New York won’t be represented by Jacob deGrom at the All-Star Game since 2017.

GUARDIANS (3): Emmanuel Clase^, RHP; Andrés Giménez^ (starter), 2B; José Ramírez^, 3B

The Guardians' All-Stars include two first-time selections in Clase and Giménez, and a four-time All-Star in Ramírez, who's an All-Star for a second straight year and leading the AL with 66 RBIs. With Jose Altuve out, Giménez becomes the youngest player to start at second in the All-Star Game since Roberto Alomar in 1992.

BREWERS (3): Corbin Burnes+, RHP; Josh Hader+, LHP; Devin Williams#, RHP

For just the third time in the past two decades, the Brewers won’t send at least one hitter to the All-Star Game. Instead, they’ll be led by three of the game’s top arms in Burnes, Hader and Williams, although Williams will be the lone active player.

PADRES (3): Manny Machado (starter), 3B; Joe Musgrove^, RHP; Jake Cronenworth+, 2B

Machado just edged out Arenado for the NL starting spot at third base, giving him his sixth career All-Star nod and third career All-Star start, but it’s his first in the NL after two with the Orioles. Musgrove is an All-Star for the first time, while Cronenworth makes his second straight trip to the Midsummer Classic.

MARLINS (3): Sandy Alcantara^, RHP; Jazz Chisholm Jr.#, 2B; Garrett Cooper+, DH

Chisholm is the first All-Star from the Bahamas, as the 24-year-old earned his first career All-Star selection as the NL starter at second base. The Marlins' other All-Star is their ace Alcantara, who has a 1.73 ERA and Major League-leading 130 1/3 innings pitched, including seven or more innings in 12 straight starts.

Cooper is an All-Star for the first time in his career. He was named as a replacement for the injured Bryce Harper.

ANGELS (2): Shohei Ohtani (starter at DH, selected by MLB as RHP); Mike Trout, OF#

A year after Ohtani took the All-Star Game by storm, he returns for his encore, making the team as both a hitter and pitcher. Trout will miss the game for the second straight year due to injury.

CUBS (2): Willson Contreras (starter), C; Ian Happ^, OF

Contreras starting at catcher (his third career fan election) while his brother William starts at DH will make them the first brothers to appear in the same All-Star Game since Aaron and Bret Boone in 2003, the first brothers on the same All-Star team since Roberto Alomar and Sandy Alomar Jr. in 1998 and the first brothers to start alongside each other in the All-Star Game since the Alomars in '92.

PHILLIES (2): Bryce Harper#, DH; Kyle Schwarber^, OF

The reigning NL MVP Harper earned his seventh career All-Star selection and sixth fan election as a starter, but his fractured left thumb will keep him out of the game. The Phillies will still be represented by Schwarber, who leads the NL with 28 home runs in his first season in Philadelphia.

RED SOX (3): Xander Bogaerts^, SS; Rafael Devers (starter), 3B; J.D. Martinez+, DH

The left side of the Boston infield returns to the All-Star Game for a second straight season. Both Bogaerts and Devers started the 2021 Midsummer Classic for the AL. So this is Devers' second straight fan election as a starter, and it's Bogaerts' fourth career All-Star Game.

Martinez was added to the roster as a replacement for the injured Yordan Alvarez, marking the fifth time Martinez has been selected as an All-Star in his career.

TIGERS (2): Miguel Cabrera, 1B (special selection); Gregory Soto", LHP

Cabrera joins his fellow future Hall of Famer Pujols as a special selection to the All-Star Game. He and Pujols are two of three players all-time with 3,000 hits, 500 home runs and 600 doubles.

TWINS (2): Luis Arraez^, INF; Byron Buxton^ (starter), OF

Both Twins are first-time All-Stars, with Arraez leading the MLB batting race with a .348 batting average this season and Buxton ranking fourth in the AL with 23 home runs. Buxton will slot into the starting lineup with Mike Trout injured.

WHITE SOX (2): Tim Anderson (starter), SS; Liam Hendriks+, RHP

Anderson will make his second straight All-Star appearance. The fan-favorite shortstop is hitting .318 and has stolen 10 bases this season. Hendriks was announced as a replacement.

GIANTS (2): Joc Pederson (starter), OF; Carlos Rodón#, RHP

Pederson's clutch power hitting (17 home runs, 136 OPS+) has been huge for the Giants this season, and it has earned him his first career fan election as an All-Star starter -- although he also started the All-Star Game as a rookie with the Dodgers in 2015 in place of an injured Matt Holliday. That was his only other career All-Star selection. Rodón was named to the NL squad as a replacement for Brewers closer Josh Hader, but a blister and split fingernail on his pitching hand will sideline him.

MARINERS (2): Julio Rodríguez", OF; Ty France+, 1B

An All-Star appearance in his first season is the cherry on top of an incredible first-half performance for Rodríguez. He’s the first rookie to represent the Mariners at the Midsummer Classic since Michael Pineda in 2011. France replaces Mike Trout on the roster.

RANGERS (2): Martín Pérez", LHP; Corey Seager+, SS

After 11 years in the big leagues, Pérez earned his first career All-Star appearance after returning to his original team this offseason. Pérez is putting up career numbers with a 2.72 ERA and 1.17 WHIP.

Seager was named to the AL roster as a replacement for the injured George Springer. It is Seager's third All-Star selection and first since 2017.

ATHLETICS (1): Paul Blackburn", RHP

Blackburn has been a bright spot for the A's with a breakout season. The 28-year-old is 6-4 with a 3.36 ERA and 73 strikeouts in 17 starts.

D-BACKS (1): Joe Mantiply", LHP

Mantiply has become a shutdown reliever in his second season with the D-backs. The 31-year-old has a 1.87 ERA and 32 of his 34 outings have been scoreless, including 17 straight scoreless appearances from May 7 to June 21.

NATIONALS (1): Juan Soto", OF

At age 23, Soto has already amassed a ton of accolades in his five-year career, adding a second All-Star appearance to two Silver Slugger awards, a World Series ring and a second-place MVP finish. Soto is having a down season by his standards, hitting a career-low .243, but even then, his OPS is over .860 and he’s still slugged 17 homers.

ORIOLES (1): Jorge López^, RHP

López bounced between three teams in his seven-year career, but he’s finally found a home in Baltimore. He’s rewarded them with a breakout season with a 1.74 ERA and 16 saves.

PIRATES (1): David Bednar", RHP

In his second full season, Bednar has transformed into one of the best closers in MLB, holding a 2.63 ERA and saving 15 games.

RAYS (1): Shane McClanahan^, LHP

McClanahan has been one of the game’s best young pitchers, leading the AL in ERA, WHIP and strikeouts. An All-Star appearance will bolster his quest for the AL Cy Young Award in his sophomore season.

REDS (1): Luis Castillo", RHP

With his second career All-Star appearance, Castillo became the first Reds starting pitcher to earn multiple All-Star nods since Mario Soto from 1982-84.

ROCKIES (1): C.J. Cron", 1B

With 20 homers and 66 RBIs, Cron is having the finest season of his career at the plate and becomes the first Rockies first baseman to be selected as an All-Star since Todd Helton in 2004.

ROYALS (1): Andrew Benintendi", OF

Benintendi has a World Series ring and a Gold Glove Award, but 2022 marks the first All-Star selection for the 28-year-old.
